Having taught kids and youth in various settings over the years, I find that even kids who were raised in Christian homes just don’t know their Bible. They may think that King Saul was the king that lived during the time of Jesus or that Peter was the one who went to preach to Nineveh.
Old or New Testament? Bible Name Sort
This Bible Name Sort is a game you can play with your learners to review names and even where to find them in the Bible. The answer key is included on the first page of the pack, so be sure to look there if you get stuck.

To play, cut out the two head cards which are “Old Testament” and “New Testament.” Place them so that all learners can see them.
Shuffle the name cards and pass one them out to every kid. One by one, they read their name and sort it under the correct head card.
More Ideas for Using these Bible Name Cards:
- To create an entire lesson out of this game, have learners use their Bibles to find, check, and/or support their answers. Have them share what they found. Discuss their answers and give feedback.
- Tape the two head cards {“Old Testament” and “New Testament”} on opposite walls of the room. One at a time, read and show a name card. Learners move to the head card that the name fits under, to “Old Testament” if they think it’s an OT name and to “New Testament” if they think it’s a NT name.

One awesome, but older resource I’ll mention {besides the Bible} is Who Was Who in the Bible: The Ultimate A to Z Resource. This book has every name in the Bible, how to pronounce it {Woohoo!}, and the information the Bible tells us about this person. I HIGHLY recommend it if you can get your hands on it!
I hope you find that this game engages your kiddos to learn even more about God’s Word.
