Teaching the individual events (or stories) of the Bible is WONDERFUL. Helping kids see how the stories all fit together into one overarching storyline is even better!
Storyline of the Bible Teaching Cards
I like to say that the stories of Scripture are like individual pieces of a puzzle. The storyline (sometimes called metanarrative) is the box top of what the entire puzzle looks like.
Just like the picture on the puzzle’s box top helps to clarify the placement and purpose of each individual puzzle piece, so does the storyline of Scripture help clarify the meaning and purpose behind each story in the Bible.
When teaching the individual stories, help kids/teens see where the stories fit into the metanarrative of Scripture.

So what are the four parts of the metanarrative? I’m so glad you asked!
1. Creation
God created the heavens and earth. God said they were good. Man (and woman) walked with God.
2. The Fall
Man disobeyed God. Sin entered the world. Sin brought death and separation.
3. Redemption
God promised to send a Redeemer. Galatians 4:4 tells us that “in the fullness of time,” God sent Jesus born of a woman to redeem us from the law, so that we could be adopted as His children. Jesus lived a sinless life, died the death we deserved, and rose again to redeem us from sin & death. Hallelujah!
4. Restoration
God promises He will make all things whole and right. He will make all things new. Jesus will reign as King. God always keeps His covenants and promises, so I look forward to the day when He will restore all things!
These storyline of the Bible teaching cards are formatted in a four different options and are offered in blackline. An optional teaching script is in the pack as well.
I would encourage you that each time you teach an individual story (event) in the Bible to your kids, help them see where the story fits into the metanarrative of Scripture: either Creation, The Fall, Redemption, or Restoration.
As Colossians 2:6-8 says, let’s raise rooted disciples for Him!
